Just a few days after it was announced that Hedi Slimane was leaving YSL (or Saint Laurent, as it was renamed during his tenure) the house has announced their new creative director Anthony Vaccarello. Vaccarello, known for this thigh high slits and sexy silhouettes attracted the attention of Donatella Versace and was appointed creative director of Versus Versace, a position he recently vacated amid the Saint Laurent rumors.

It will be interesting to see what he does following Slimane, who in four years completely rebranded the house with a divisive name and logo change. Slimane also revamped the stores to reflect his vision. The 57th street flagship features sleek marble interiors and exteriors, silver accents and quilted leather benches, essentially making Saint Laurent Slimane's. Even with the rumors of his departure that Saint Laurent constantly denied it was a bit of a surprise when he left, especially after all the changes he made. There were quiet rumors that he would nab the creative director spot at Dior following the amicable split but also questions. Slimane spent four years at Saint Laurent which left everyone wondering, is such a short tenure the new norm? Vogue Runway's Nicole Phelps took a look at the high fashion musical chairs and more importantly what that means for brands and designers, especially with the current pace of fashion. Phelps brings up Alexander Wang and Raf Simons who like Slimane vacated their creative director positions after about four years. However, there are rumors that Vaccarello plans to shutter his own line which could mean that he plans on staying long term.

Though Vaccarello shares Slimane's affinity for leather, he is an interesting pick to follow Slimane's grungy cool festival looks. His designs have been just as provocative as past creative directors' but we won't find out if Vaccarello is a good fit for the brand until October. But judging by past collections from his namesake brand and his work at Versus, Vaccarello should be able to bring the right amount of femininity and sexy the house needs.
