| Dior SS16 VIA |
Since Raf Simons departed from Dior over a month ago things have been relatively quiet. A few names have come up when discussing who will take the coveted spot but nothing has stuck. One of the most popular was Alber Elbaz, who left Lanvin around the same time creating speculation that he would be going to the house. Soon the drama at Lanvin unfolded and it appeared that Elbaz’s departure wasn’t exactly his choice. While he hasn’t signed on for Dior he has signed up for instagram, so we Alber fans have that at least. Another name thrown out there was Riccardo Tisci, current Givenchy creative director. Rumors sparked when he presented his Spring Summer 2016 collection and included a retrospective of some of his past looks and looked a bit like a farewell collection, but it seems Tisci is still deeply devoted to Givenchy.
Though they remain mum on who will be taking up the spot, things are still busy at Dior. The couture house’s most recent endeavor was e-commerce. The last of the luxury houses to get in on the e-commerce game, they launched an online pop-up shop with Bergdorf Goodman. The BG.com and Dior collab features fashion's most stylish and influential (Leandra Medine, Eva Chen, Shiona Turini, Aimee Song and more) in shoes from the 2016 cruise collection. The selection features the street-style favorite bedazzled mesh trainers, laser cut pumps and loafers. Simons collections remain a commercial success as well as a success among the fashion elite.
Around the time of his Dior departure, Simons opened up to Cathy Horyn. Some of the more notable clips from the Service magazine interview were his comments on exclusivity and the fast pace of fashion; a major issue that several designers have also voiced their opinions on. For now, we know Simons is taking a break from the breakneck pace of fashion to focus on his menswear line, Raf Simons and there’s still no word on who Dior’s next creative director will be. With the new season quickly approaching and Pre-Fall shows already starting we wonder when they will make an announcement.
